SANITARY PADS SHOULD BE FREE ESSAY
IRADUKUNDA krabbé john Wesley, G.S REMERA RUKOMA
It is certain true that the girls between thirteen years old and forty five years old getting continuous monthly event known as menstruation period. Onetime my friend told me story about Anna and Aisha, the story illustrated that Anna and Aisha were going to school.
Anna: Wait!!! Is that blood on your
skirt?
Aisha: (said agitatedly) what are you
talking about? Anna continued to be even more nervous.
Anna: (said nervously) there is plenty of blood on your skirt! Don’t tell me you don’t know your period?
Aisha seemed to don’t know what was happening.
Aisha: I am totally embarrassed, what am
I going to do?
Sorry for interrupting, onetime my father told me that menstruation is embarrassing story of a girls and never ask them if they are in period. But for me the menstruation period is event that have to be acknowledged to happen. Apparently Aisha did not have the money to afford pads because her father passed out and her family was facing with financial crisis. Pads alternatives are likely to be used by the girls who cannot afford pads or who don’t prefer to use the pads. But this alternatives such as tissue paper, toilet paper and clothes are more risk to cause some genital diseases and infection. Not only but also some of Rwandan girls missed out their school because they don’t have pads to deal with menstruation Period which further decrease their productivity in education. Thus, in this body of work, I am going to argue that sanitary pads should be free, in fact that poor accessibility on pads pose a fundamental challenge to the Rwandan girls.
The current price of pads is 1000frw per a pad, which is a challenge to many Rwandan families. Recent research carried by SEVEN UNITED FOR NEED showed that 23% of Rwandan girls use one pad per month. This results confused me, wondering the remaining 77% of Rwandan girls how they deal with menstrual period. Fortunately, I got talk with the mentor of African Enterprise Evangelical (AEE) One of program of USAID whose ambition is to reduce HIV/AIDS and creating good future for a girls. The mentor BAZIHANE Satisfaite said that 1 of 4 girls that she is responsible In AEE program are not able to afford the pads monthly. BAZIHANE also said that it is terrible situation if there is girls out there who cannot afford a pads which may results in employs alternatives methods which can be risk if not used proper and she mentioned that alternatives such as tissue paper or overuse of the pads cause diseases like toxic shock syndrome (TTS) and bacterial vaginitis. After all I want to appreciate all programs that government continue to published in aim of increasing standard living of the girls. But we need a lots of effort to cancel the pads problem, either through various humanitarian program or other program as well as AEE.
There is evidence to suggest that lack of pads going to decrease productivity of the Rwandan girls in education.it is probably viewed in schools, where some of girls missed out their school because they don’t have mean to deal with menstruation period. For instance, according to the story of Aisha and Anna, what advice would Aisha gives Anna? May be Anna would finally missed out the school’s teaching which is not good for her and doesn’t deserve it .recent research carried by Rwanda education board (REB) showed that school academic successful percentage of girls was about 45% and boys are about 55% perhaps this result from that days missed out by the girls trying to deal with menstruation period. Therefore, if the sanitary pads were free also the productivity of the girls would increase in education, health and in every each aspect of life. Increasing in productivity of the girls is also government development as well as government is people for people by people.
You all must have an idea about the prostitution continue to increase day to day in the world. With regard interview, “we still have the girls who joined prostitution because they couldn’t afford Required sanitary materials” the mentor said. Sanitary materials the mentor mentioned include pads, cosmetic oil, and soaps. This is terrible situation if Rwandan girls going to join prostitution because the pads cost, this made me more agitated for future of our country. Obviously prostitution harms the life of women in Rwanda. Once the girls joined in prostitution, they are more susceptible to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Therefore, this will reduce speed of development of our country because country will emphasis on their treatment instead of investing in development projects. In that fact I sincerely request government to consider its youth as future of the country who continued to put themselves into prostitution. Prostitution is too hazard to destroy future of country, therefore let sanitary pads be free to avoid destruction of Rwanda future.
To conclude, sanitary pads should be free because poor accessibility to pads going to make young girls put themselves in prostitution which further decrease the speed of development of or country. Not only but also non inconvenient accessibility on the pads indirectly going to decrease productivity of Rwandan girls in schools. After all I want to make request to government if it is possible to impose tax charge on salaries and those charge used to purchase pads for our Rwandan girls. Let us together help Aisha and Anna to proceed on their ambition, let sanitary pads not be disruption. Sanitary pads should be free.
Thank you.
